Acne is a disease of skin that actually occurs due to skin disorder. Hormonal imbalance and some substances like sebaceous glands and hair follicles are the main reasons for acne. Acne is also known as zits or pimples.

The hair follicles, oil and dead skin cells block the pores of the skin and that resulting in the superficial skin eruption of the skin. Acne may also occur due to the surge of hormones (mainly testosterone) during puberty. For some it may continue up to their young adulthood and to some pimples continue appearing up to an advanced age. Acne generally occurs at some specific parts of the body like back, face, shoulders, neck and chest.

The cause of acne is not completely determined yet. However, there are certain factors which lead to the occurrence of acne. It is the increase of hormones known as “androgens”. It is very common in case of boys and girls during puberty and makes the sebaceous glands enlarge and make more sebum.

Heredity is another important cause of acne. Children are more likely to inherit acne if any or both of the parents have it.
