Glycolic acid belongs to a group of chemicals known as alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). It is considered to be one of the effective treatments for acne. Glycolic acids works by loosening up the outer dead layers of the skin, and removing the plugs which block the follicles. Glycolic acid chemical peels are especially helpful in treating acne.

Glycolic acid works as an exfoliating agent. It loosens up the bond present in the outer layers of the skin.
