In reality, the formation of acne starts even before 14-21 days before you see the blemish surface. The formation of acne happens when new skin forms shedding old skin cells.
Actually the outer skin you see i.e. epidermis is composed of dead skin cells. They shed by mixing with the body’s natural oils, and in the process new skin forms.
In case the dead skin cells do not shed evenly then they become sticky and clump together. These groups of cells get caught in the sebaceous hair follicles, which are also known as skin pores.
The oil in your skin cells is actually formed to keep your skin moist and healthy. But, the clog that is formed blocks the oil and also the bacteria that are already within your skin. And, the formation of clog in turn leads to production of more oil and causes swelling.
To avoid the excess oil and bacteria formation and protect your skin, your body sends white blood cells. Though these white blood cells help in fighting against bacteria they lead to further swelling and inflammation. The clogged pore with excess oil in it is known as ACNE.
