“20 and 20+ women suffer more from acne than men pf the same age group”, says a new research study. Dermatologists at the University of Alabama came up with this claim after studying acne prevalence in 1,013 men and women who are 20 and 20+.
The study found that onetime-in-life sufferers of acne accounted to 73.3 percent of volunteers. Among them, men and women who faced acne problem during their teenage are 68.5 and 66.8 respectively. Though the amount of acne suffering during teenage is almost same for both genders, it is women who are facing more of acne problem in adolescence.
The following are some interesting findings about adult acne in men and women:
- During their 20s, women and men acne sufferers are 50.9% and 42.5% respectively.
- During their 30s, women and men acne sufferers are 35.2% and 20.1% respectively.
- During their 40s, women and men acne sufferers are 26.3% and 12% respectively.
- During their 50s and later, women and men acne sufferers are 15.3% and 7.3% respectively.
All these facts indicate that it is women who suffer more from acne in their 20s and during 20+. Further research still needs to be done to find out the reasons for why adult acne is more in women and to come up with better treatment options. Now, the researchers think that hormones may be the reason for this.
