The American Academy of Dermatology suggests following tips to prevent and teat acne:
- Do not pop, squeeze or pick at acne, because these may lead to acne scars.
- If your acne does not respond positively to over-the-counter medications, consult a dermatologist to get treated.
- Wash acne affected area gently using mild soap and warm water twice a day. Do not was or scrub vigorously. This may irritate your skin and worsen the acne.
- Use cosmetics and toiletries that are “noncomedogenic” (do not clog pores).
- Use cosmetics and sunscreens that are oil-free.
- Do not use astringents that contain alcohol ingredient. These may strip your skin of natural moisture, and worsen the acne.
- Shampoo your hair often. If you have oily hair, shampoo daily.
- Use acne medications according to the specific directions give. And, give time for the medications to show the expected effect.
