Now, we have many medications and treatment options to deal with acne. However, let us go back to the basics to treat acne. Here we teach you on how to wash your face to prevent acne. Gentle cleansing of your face helps prevent irritation and avoid acne breakouts.
Below are the steps on proper cleansing of your face before you apply any acne medication.
- When you choose a facial cleanser go for the one that is oil-free and non-comedogenic. It is much better if you can find one that is referred “non-irritating” and “non-overdrying”. Washing your face with such facial cleanser helps prevent further aggravation of acne.
- Some acne cleansers come with other medications included in them. The best advice we can give you – go for gentle cleansing that is followed by application of medication.
- Be kind to your skin. Wash your face only twice daily – morning and evening. Washing your face more may cause irritation.
- Know the fact that dirt does not cause acne. So, wash your face with bare hands. Do not use washcloth, as it may irritate your skin. Washing is to prepare your skin for application of medication.
- Do not rub your skin. It irritates your skin, and can lead to more acne breakouts. Gently pat dry.
After you properly cleanse your face following the above guidelines, you are ready to apply the acne medication prescribed by your doctor.
