Accutane, the most commonly prescribed acne drug, is found not good for your heart and liver. Already, this drug is known to cause birth defects. Now, the latest research findings say that it is also not friendly to your hear and liver.

The research study is based on lab tests of 13.772 patients who took accutane to treat acne. In these patients it is found that accutane resulted in abnormal results for cholesterol and liver functions.

The health experts say that – the findings may indicate that accutane may lead to problems over the long term, but it does not necessarily mean the patients develop heart and liver problems. Increase in cholesterol does not mean a heart attack or increase in liver enzymes may not lead to liver problems.

Further studies need to be done to learn the effects of accutane on heart and liver health. The present study found out that the abnormal test results came to normal after the patients stopped taking accutane.
