Acne is the most prevalent skin problem in the whole world. As the acne naturally heals it leaves behind a hyperpigmented mark. Slowly and gradually the mark fades out but if it doesn’t then it turns out to be an acne scar.
Types of Acne Scars:
Acne scars may result either due to excess tissue formation or due to tissue loss.
-
Excess Tissue Formation: Collagen builds up in the tissue and these are often called as hypertrophic or keloid scars.
-
Tissue loss: More common type of scars and these are of several types.
- Ice pick scar: they might be superficial or deep. Generally small in size, superficial scars are soft and deeper scars are hard to touch.
- Depressed fibrotic scar: generally large scars with steep sides. They appear similar to chicken pox scars.
- Atrophic macules: soft and flat scars with bluish violet color, with time they fade out.
Scar Treatment:
Person could undergo treatment as scar removal treatment or as a general skin rejuvenation program with scar treatment. Beside the topical treatment there are various other types of treatment with which the scars are treated.
-
Chemical Peeling helps in removing small, light and soft scars. Repeated peelings are required in order to treat scars completely. Peeling is less effective for treating keloids, deeper scars.
-
Dermabrasion is effective in treating deeper scars and keloids. It involves removal of top layer of the skin.
-
Scar laser treatment is the less painful, most effective method for treating acne scars. Laser enhances the collagen growth hence filling the scars from inside at the same time it also helps in removal of small facial lines and wrinkles.
-
For some exceptional cases excision surgery is also suggested.
Person desiring Acne Scar Treatment need to consult a good dermatologist in order to discuss the desired results as well as the cost of the treatment and the side effects.
